Highlighting our members – Hermione Way

ree

Each month, we spotlight a valued member of the Company of Communicators.

This month, we’re delighted to feature Hermione Way, who divides her time between London and Suffolk. With a 20-year career spanning journalism, Silicon Valley tech, high-profile brand roles, and now her own consultancy - Way Communications - Hermione has built a reputation for bold, strategic storytelling.

How long have you been in Communications?

“Twenty years.”

How did you come into Communications?

“I studied journalism at London Metropolitan University --hello NCTJs! Through networking, I met founders building apps and tech companies, and I became fascinated. That curiosity took me to Silicon Valley as a tech journalist. From there, I transitioned into communications, and when I came back to the UK in 2015, I became Tinder’s Head of Communications. In 2019, I co-founded Innovation Labs in Suffolk, and now I run my own agency, Way Communications, helping companies with go-to-market strategy and branding.”

What’s been a highlight of working in Communications?

“Being Tinder’s Head of Communications was incredible. We ran a first-of-its-kind ‘tech for good’ partnership with the NHS to promote organ donation - hugely successful for both Tinder and the NHS.”

Quick-fire questions

Crisis or launch campaign - and why? “Launch campaign. It’s exciting bringing new products to market, like the Pose app I’m currently working with.”

Why does Communication matter? “Good comms can be the difference between a million-pound company and one that folds. Think of the brands always winning on LinkedIn - always part of the conversation. They succeed because they show up consistently and build content over time.”

What tip would you give to a journalist and why? “‘Follow the tension.’ That’s where the real story lives at the pressure points, the contradictions.”
