Flipping marvellous

When you turn up for a City event dressed as a pencil you might be forgiven for feeling self-conscious but Communicator Jon Woodburn looked relatively normal in Guildhall Yard yesterday.

The Shrove Tuesday inter-livery pancake races field saw everything from strawberry, a spider, a plumber in lederhosen and a someone dressed as Tower Bridge.

In the marginally less bizarre races in livery robes, the Communicators were represented by Senior Warden Jon McLeod, court assistant Aceil Haddad, and Lisa Ward.

A chap from the Worshipful Company of Actuaries turned up in a Penguin outfit because they had got confused with the Poulter’s Pelican Trust, while the Plaisterers had a member dressed as a spider “to represent the Lady Mayor’s web of charities”. I suspect he had a spider suit that he wanted to use. It was unclear the Chartered Surveyors why their runner was dressed as an owl but it can’t have been easy to race in it while tossing a pancakes.
