The latest of our series of events featuring Lord Chadlington sees him ‘in conversation’ with Sir John Major.
In the presence of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Sir John will be reminiscing about the lessons he has learned during his long career in politics and the importance of communications, both to the individual and to government.
Sir John was first elected in 1979, and entered Government in 1983. He joined the Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 1987; was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in July 1989 and Chancellor of the Exchequer in October 1989. He served as Prime Minister from November 1990 to May 1997. In 1999, he was appointed a Companion of Honour in recognition of his initiation of the Northern Ireland Peace Process.
Sir John retired from the House of Commons in May 2001. His business interests include Senior Advisor to Credit Suisse; and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Global Infrastructure Management. He is Chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, the Campaign Board of King’s London, and is also President or Patron of a number of UK and international charities.
Lord Chadlington has spent his working life in journalism, public relations, and politics. A serial entrepreneur, he founded two of the largest public relations networks in the world, Shandwick and Huntsworth. He was elevated to the House of Lords as a Conservative Peer in 1996.
Peter is supporting the Company of Public Relations Practitioners with a series of events seeing him in conversation with industry figures and in doing so is helping us raise funds for our charitable trust.
