Why did you join the Company of Communicators?
Patricia Hamzahee: I joined the company after being introduced to it by the journalist and publisher Helen Dunne. I attended an event in support of responsible business where I met a senior, convivial group of communications specialists that seemed to share a similar interest in showing how communications and communicators can make a positive impact on business and wider society.
What benefits have you derived from joining?
Patricia Hamzahee: While my involvement with the Company has ebbed and flowed over the years due to other commitments taking priority, I always return because of the opportunity to learn from other senior communicators with such wide and different experience and skills.
What are the main challenges you are experiencing in communications today?
Patricia Hamzahee: I am concerned about the creation of ever more narrow echo chambers or worse one-way channels, where listening to one another is not valued. I launched my consultancy by defining Communications as from the Latin meaning to share. Communications is the meaningful exchange of information, ideas, feelings, intentions, attitudes, expectations, perceptions or commands.
