Why did you join the Company of Communicators?

Kelly Freeman: I joined the Guild of PR Practitioners (as it was then) in 2010 because I felt it was important to ‘give back’ and wanted to be part of a wider organisation that helped the industry contribute to doing this.

What benefits have you derived from joining?

Kelly Freeman: Highlights of my year as Master included the development of a pioneering three-year strategy to progress the Guild and the institution of the annual Military Dinner, then billed as a Homecoming Banquet for members of the profession who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other benefits include the importance of fellowship, particularly within the City, a wider understanding of the importance of good teamwork at the strategic level, the opportunity to help small charitable organisations develop confidence and positioning and experience of working on boards where the ability to lead and influence is paramount to meeting set objectives.

What are the main challenges you are experiencing in communications today?

Kelly Freeman: The main challenges currently are maintaining organisational reputation in a difficult and ever changing social, political and cultural climate whilst engaging employees, so that they feel supported and confident in their roles, given the ongoing uncertainty and challenges around the pandemic.
