The Company of Communicators gathered for its annual Summer Reception at Apothecaries Hall yesterday evening.
Master James Gurling gave a speech highlighting the key role of communications in the City of London. As the Company heads of Worshipful status, he praised the team’s charitable work over the year and reported that membership had doubled in the last two years.
“I’m also proud to say over a third of our members are women and over 10% from a BAME background,” he said. “And over 100 of our members are now Freeman of the City of London and over another 30 are in the waiting queue to become Freemen.”
Guests included Mark Lucraft QC, Recorder of London, Chris Hayward, Chairman of the Policy & Resources Committee of the Corporation of London, and Common Councillors (pictured below), the Master Apothecary and Master Glazier.
Earlier the two new Freemen joined the company:
Mike Harrison, Interim Senior Media Relations Manager, Lloyds Banking Group; former Board Member of the DM Trust, and Dr Tariq Abbasi MBE, Chairman – Westar Group of Companies. He is a Founder member of the Armed Forces Muslim Forum and was appointed a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater London in 2016.
